GOD FAQ

  • Who is God?

God is the eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing Creator of the universe. Christians believe God exists as the Trinity—Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit—three persons in one divine essence. God is loving, just, merciful, and holy, and desires a personal relationship with each person.

  • Does God really exist?

While faith is ultimately required, there are many reasons Christians believe God exists: the complexity and design of creation, the existence of moral laws, the historical evidence for Jesus Christ's life and resurrection, and the personal experiences of millions of believers throughout history.

  • Why does God allow suffering and evil?

This is perhaps the most difficult question in Christianity. God gave humans free will, which allows for both good and evil choices. Much suffering comes from human sin and poor decisions. Other suffering may serve purposes we don't understand, can build character, or may be part of living in a fallen world. Christians believe God ultimately works all things for good and will one day eliminate all suffering.

  • How can I know God's will for my life?

God reveals His will through prayer, studying Scripture, seeking wise counsel from mature Christians, and paying attention to circumstances and opportunities. Generally, God wants us to love Him, love others, and use our gifts to serve Him and our community.

  • What happens after we die?

Christians believe in eternal life. Those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior will spend eternity in heaven with God. The Bible describes heaven as a place of perfect joy, peace, and fellowship with God, free from pain, sorrow, and death.

  • How can I be saved?

Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches that all people have sinned and fall short of God's glory (Romans 3:23), but God offers forgiveness and eternal life as a free gift through Jesus' death and resurrection. You can be saved by acknowledging your sin, believing Jesus died for you, and committing your life to following Him.

  • Why did God create humans if He knew we would sin?

God created humans with free will because He wanted genuine love and relationship, not forced obedience. Even knowing we would choose sin, God's love was so great that He was willing to provide salvation through Jesus Christ. The capacity for sin was worth it for the possibility of true love and fellowship.

  • Is the Bible reliable?

Christians believe the Bible is God's inspired Word. Archaeological discoveries consistently support Biblical accounts, and the manuscript evidence for the New Testament is stronger than for any other ancient document. The Bible's internal consistency, despite being written by multiple authors over centuries, and its transformative impact on millions of lives support its reliability.

  • How should I pray?

Prayer is simply talking with God. You can pray anywhere, anytime, about anything. Jesus taught us to pray with reverence (acknowledging God's holiness), submission (accepting God's will), gratitude (thanking God for His blessings), confession (admitting our sins), and petition (asking for our needs and the needs of others).

  • Why do bad things happen to good people?

We live in a fallen world affected by sin. Sometimes bad things happen due to others' poor choices, natural disasters, disease, or spiritual warfare. God doesn't promise a trouble-free life, but He promises to be with us through difficulties and to work all things for good for those who love Him.

  • How can I grow in my faith?

Spiritual growth comes through regular Bible reading, prayer, fellowship with other believers, serving others, and obedience to God's commands. Find a local church community, consider joining a small group Bible study, and look for opportunities to use your gifts to help others.

  • What is the Trinity?

The Trinity is the Christian belief that God exists as three distinct persons—Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit—while remaining one God. Though it's a mystery beyond full human understanding, each person of the Trinity is fully God, yet they are not three separate gods but one God in three persons.

  • How do I know if I'm truly saved?

Signs of genuine salvation include a desire to follow Jesus, love for God and others, conviction about sin, joy in worship and prayer, and gradual positive changes in your life. The Bible says those who belong to Christ will produce "fruit"—evidence of God's work in their lives.

  • Why doesn't God answer my prayers?

God always hears and responds to prayer, but His answers may be "yes," "no," or "wait." Sometimes our prayers aren't answered as expected because they conflict with God's will, we're asking for the wrong reasons, there's unconfessed sin in our lives, or God has something better in mind.

  • Is Jesus the only way to heaven?

Christians believe Jesus is the only way to salvation because He uniquely bridged the gap between holy God and sinful humanity through His perfect life, sacrificial death, and resurrection. Jesus Himself said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
